Day 1287 (05/07/2013)

Ditto for previous day, nice breakfast on the balcony then relaxing by the pool reading Stewart Lee's book, with a short break for lunch on the balcony.

Then dinner at the hotel as we have a very early start to come home.

Day 1286 (04/07/2013)

Holiday - Day 6 Thursday

Ditto for previous day, nice breakfast on the balcony then relaxing by the pool reading Stewart Lee's book, with a short break for lunch on the balcony.

Then dinner opposite at the Spanish Grill which was actually closed so we were at the Mexican restaurant by mistakes, so Nachos and Fajitas.

Day 1285 (03/07/2013)

Holiday - Day 5 Wednesday

Ditto for previous day, nice breakfast on the balcony then relaxing by the pool reading Stewart Lee's book, with a short break for lunch on the balcony.

Then dinner on the seafront,

it only looks like a mixed grill but is actually a local dish translated as mixed meat.

Day 1284 (02/07/2013)

Holiday - Day 4 Tuesday

A relaxing day by the pool reading books.

Then down to the marina for paella and sangria (plus very large sambuka's which were a bit of a mistake and some bailey's coffee's, so rather too much to drink)

We have a nice flat screen telly with satellite channels in the apartment but for some reason it is tuned into BBC 1 & 2 Scotland and ITV Wales. Also Sky News seems to only show the events in Egypt and I can't believe that nothing else is happening, anywhere.

Day 1283 (01/07/2013)

Holiday - Day 3 Monday

After another nice breakfast on the balcony, we opted for driving out to some Sand Dunes which my wife had seen advertised, which apparently are a tourist attraction. But we didn't actually have a map so just headed of in the general direction of that part of the island.

When we found the Sand Dunes we had obviously arrived by a back entrance but my wife was keen to explore them, even though I pointed out that there seemed to be a lot of single middle aged men heading into the dunes and it probably wasn't the right area.

So we headed into the dunes and I think we discovered that the art of dogging has clearly reached the island as suddenly we did see a number of somewhat under-dressed men, who were maybe engaged in a solo activity waiting for a new partner to happen by. While in no way being homophobic either me or my wife were in there thoughts and it wasn't good news.

Thankfully my wife eventually realised that it was foolish to carry on & we got back to the car and escaped to the safety of the main beach.

Nice picnic, sleep on the beach and walk in the sea, then back to the hotel, for time in the pool and doing some crosswords.

Then to an Italian restaurant opposite for nice fish themed dinner of Four Spotted Scalfish Fillets in cream sauce and swordfish.

Followed by flambe banana (to share)

Day 1282 (30/06/2013)

Holiday - Day 2 Sunday

After a welcome sleep we had a nice breakfast, just about overlooking the marina.

Then for walk down to the marina and along the coast, where we had our picnic on the worlds hottest beach, which was quite nearby. Honestly the sand was baking.

Then back (uphill) to the hotel and a few hours by the pool before out for a Chinese and a retro bottle of Mateus.

Day 1281 (29/06/2013)

Holiday - Day 1 Saturday

By about the early hours we were just about ready to go on holiday, which was handy as we had to leave by 8am to get to Bristol Airport, where we'd had a lovely bacon roll & a cup of tea.

One of the many reasons of me wishing I was slimmer is the look that you get from air stewards, who don't believe you managed to get the seat belt round you, trust me I did even if it was a struggle which left me unable to move for the whole flight.

We arrived in Gran Canaria, where even the locals were complaining about how hot it was. We then had a 25minutes drive in our little (and already battle scared) VW Polo, which was unbelievable uncomfortable to drive as the peddles were set at an angle.

I hate driving whereas my wife loves driving, but she refuses to drive abroad, on the wrong side of the road, so she makes me do it instead. When we first picked up the car I went to get into the passenger side, then when my wife sat in the passenger side she started feeling for the peddles, assuming she was driving as she was sat on the right side of the car.  Damn these foreigners and the way they try to confuse us British with their wrong sided cars.

We managed to find the hotel and were quite impressed with our apartment, very new and posh.

By the time we had unpacked it was about 6pm and we realised how thirsty & hungry we were because apart from a bottle of water and some boiled sweats on the flight, we hadn't had anything since the bacon roll at 9am.

On the way to the local supermarket opposite, to stock up on supplies, we stopped off at an Irish bar for an ice cold half of shandy, an absolute life saver.

Then to. The restaurant at the hotel which was really nice. We had a champagne sangria as a treat, which we could have drunk like lemonade apart from the cost and the effect of the alcohol.

The meal was nice, with a goats. Cheese starter,

Then a mixed kebab and a scallop dish for my wife,

All very tasty followed by an orange panacota and a fruit pancake.

Truly a healthy day with plenty of fruit.
